Another very encouraging performance by a very young reserve side, which augers well for next season. Leatherhead were the visitors, sitting in third place, but missing a couple of key players.
Both teams dished up an entertaining goalless draw. Neither keeper was overly busy, but the better chances again fell to the Woods. Andy Murphy led the attack well, and was unlucky in the 18th minute when his first effort on goal was blocked on the line and cleared.
The best chance of the half fell to Campbell-Grimshaw, but he failed to beat the keeper when through on goal. Twice more Murphy was denied by late blocks as Mitch Swain was a virtual spectator at this stage.
Campbell-Grimshaw gave way to Anton Robinson at the start of the second half, and again it was Murphy who went close to giving the Woods a lead they deserved. But it wasn’t to be and the game went from end to end with no finish.
There were polished performances from 16 year old George McCluskey, Jon Daily and Elliot Gibbs. For a change we had a good referee, and all credit to Mark Sennett for his performance.
Man of the Match: Elliot Gibbs.
